OpenStudy (kj4uts):

For this function (attached below) what is the maximum value? Please explain answer. Thank you!

OpenStudy (kj4uts):

OpenStudy (danjs):

recall the cosine function range is from -1 to 1

OpenStudy (danjs):

the maxiumum the cosine term can be is +1

OpenStudy (danjs):

or 4*cos(u) maximum of 4

OpenStudy (danjs):

so what is the overall maximum of y(x)?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

the absolute maximum would not be 4, since the function is shifted 3 units down.

OpenStudy (danjs):

i think he took that and ran with it , forgetting about the -3 hah

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

-:(

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

the absolute minimum is extended though, from -4 to be -7.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I wouldn't want to use calculus for this function even if I was asked to.... jk

OpenStudy (danjs):

yeah -7<=y<=1

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

you can use an alt code 755 and 754

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

or could have, if not a stupid glitch with question makrs

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

*marks

OpenStudy (danjs):

≤≥

OpenStudy (danjs):

yeah, i usually just type the le ge in the latex thing

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I mean the codes: Click AL:T and hold it Click 7 5 5 on the number pad on the left. you get: \(\large\color{black}{ \le }\) have you clicked 7 5 4 you get: \(\large\color{black}{ \ge }\)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

there are codes for all of those, and by the way a super space that can be put on yahoo (for example) many times, without it have all turn into 1 space, (visible differently in some word docs) with alt code 2 5 5.
