OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

The molar mass hydrogen peroxide is 34.0 g, and its empirical formula is HO. What is the molecular formula for hydrogen peroxide? A. HO B. HO2 C. H2O D. H2O2

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

also (if possible), could you help with this one? Does the chemical formula H2O2 represent a molecule or a formula unit? A. Molecule B. Formula unit

OpenStudy (nechirwan):

D. H2O2

OpenStudy (nechirwan):

B. Formula unit

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

why formula unit and not molecule unit? @nechirwan

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

I think it is a molecule. Formula unis are smallest whole number ratios and thisone does not fitinto that category.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

i also think it's molecular. Formula units are used for ionic/metallic solids and molecular for covalent compounds. Hydrogen peroxide is a covalent compound.

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Thanks @aaronq and @joannablackwelder. :) I appreciate both of your points.
