Can someone explain to me how to do this? WILL GIVE MEDAL! :) A triangle has two sides that measure 23ft and 30ft. Which could be the measure of the third side? a) 5ft b)7ft c)10ft d)53ft

OpenStudy (mrnood):

you do not kow the angle between the 2 sides so it could (in theory be anywhere between 0 and 180 deg - see diagram |dw:1419964691570:dw| this shows tha angle at 'just over 0' and just under 180 Look at the extremes: IF the angle was 0 what would the length of the 2 sides added up so IF it ws JUST above 0 what is th elenght of the 3rd side that would join thme up? IF it was 180 degrees what would be the distance between th eSTART of one line and the END of th eother? So what is th shortest line that can join th e ends?

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

sum of any two sides of a triangle must be more thatn the merasure of the third side

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

it is the thorem

sammixboo (sammixboo):

\(\rm\color{blueviolet}{30~ -~ 23~ < ~Third ~Side~ < ~30~ + ~23}\)
