02 Best Response 0 Diabetics are advised not to eat ripe plantains but green ones instead. Plan and design an experiment to show if this is true. !) What is an appropriate hypothesis for this? Help me design a method 2) Can you please help with the Variables (controlled, responding and manipulating That's all! thank you so very much

pooja195 (pooja195):

I want you to try coming up with a hypotheisis and i'll help you correct it afterwards

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mrs Alli , a diabetic ,notices that when she tests her glucose in her blood after consuming ripe plantain , it was higher compared to when she consumes green plantain Pooja195

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@pooja195

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ripen plantain contain more glucose the green plantain @Nanda_mukhram

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^ I agree. @sikinder

pooja195 (pooja195):

diabetics should avoid sugar...ripe fruits have more amount of sugars than the green ones. so this could be the hypothesis.

pooja195 (pooja195):

@Nanda_mukhram

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you. @pooja195

pooja195 (pooja195):

lol we still haven't done part 2

pooja195 (pooja195):

Have you found them or do you need help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need help wit method /procedure how to go about doing this lab @pooja195

pooja195 (pooja195):

What do you mean? Can you explain it a little better

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean how I can actually design a method as to how test the hypothesis @pooja195

pooja195 (pooja195):

oh well you would need the varibles right? Can you identify them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Um control variable : the amount of Benedict's solution tht will be used.

pooja195 (pooja195):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Manipulated will be the type of plantain used

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know what is the responding variable but i think it will be the reducing sugar

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@pooja195

pooja195 (pooja195):

yes all are correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so we can start the method

pooja195 (pooja195):

yes start it off

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2 g of each plantain was weighted with electronic balance.

pooja195 (pooja195):

ok keep going :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2. samples were minced with knife and then be ground for 5min. with 25 cm3 of 60oC water in mortar separately.

pooja195 (pooja195):

yep you have that part

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3. Boiling tubes were labeled as follow .. ripe and green plantain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4. extracts were filtered through 2 layers of muslin cloth into the above two labeled boiling tubes

pooja195 (pooja195):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By use of measuring cylinder and pipettes, the filtered extracts, water, Benedict’s solution and iodine solution were transferred into the following labeled test tubes respectively

pooja195 (pooja195):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

* Test tubes I4 was the control to show no contamination in water and iodine solution and the colour change of iodine solution is due to the presence of starch in extracts.

pooja195 (pooja195):

...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6. Record the initial observations of Benedict’s test and the colour changes of iodine tes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the test tubes for Benedict’s test (B1-B3) and control of Benedict’s test (B4) were boiled in water bath for 5 mins

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the test tubes were removed from water bath and were allowed to stand for 20 mins in test tube rack.
