Solve for h. P = mgh A. h = P – mg B. C. D. h = P + mg

OpenStudy (igreen):

To solve for 'h' we have to get rid of 'mg'. 'mg' is being MULTIPLIED to 'h', so in order to get rid of it, we must do the opposite. And what's the opposite of multiplication?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

division

OpenStudy (igreen):

Right, so divide 'mg' to both sides, what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

p/mg and h/mg

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

h= p/mg?

OpenStudy (igreen):

You got it! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thankyou

OpenStudy (igreen):

\(P = mgh\) Divide mg to both sides: \(\dfrac{P}{mg} = \dfrac{mgh}{mg}\) \(\dfrac{P}{mg} = \dfrac{\cancel{mg}h}{\cancel{mg}}\) The mg's to the right cancel out leaving you with: \(h = \dfrac{P}{mg}\)
