OpenStudy (helpmeplease14):

William and Amy are stuffing envelopes for a charity. Today, William stuffed a total of 70 enveopes. This was 10 more than the number of envelopes that Amy stuffed. Write an equation showing the relationship between the numbers of envelopes that William and Amy both stuffed. MY ANSWER: 70 + 10*2 Is it correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, amy stuffed 10 less than william William stuffed 10 more than amy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think a nice variable would come in handy in this equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So lets use X to represent the number that amy stuffed.

OpenStudy (helpmeplease14):

k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So first, lets do the math, and solve the equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What short equation would be good to find the number that amy stuffed?

OpenStudy (helpmeplease14):

ummm 70-10=x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correcto. It would be 70-10=60, which is amy's stuffed amount, but we're not done yet, we need to make it into a problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So if amy have 60 stuffed envelopes, and william have 70, let's make a good equation to show the relationship

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Be sure to have 60 inside the equation!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@hartnn

OpenStudy (helpmeplease14):

70*60/2 i think

OpenStudy (helpmeplease14):

its wrong isn't it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"Write an equation showing the relationship between the numbers of envelopes that William and Amy both stuffed." This line confuses me a little now that I think about it, It's like they want you to make an equation with the total number of envelopes they both stuffed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Jhannybean , can you help a bit?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, so I just found out they want the total.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So let's try a different path to solve this equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're in algebra, correct?
