What is the y-intercept of the line given by the equation below? y = 9/2x + 5 A. (0, -5) B. (0, 9/2) C. (0, 5) D. (0, -9/2)

hartnn (hartnn):

to get `y` intercept, plug in `x=0` in the equation

hartnn (hartnn):

what you get when you put x=0 in y = (9/2)x+5 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5?

hartnn (hartnn):

correct! so the y intercept is `(0,5)` :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that go for every equation? like always put zero in where the x is to get my answer?

hartnn (hartnn):

to get `y` intercept, plug in `x=0` in the equation to get `x` intercept, plug in `y=0` in the equation and yes :)

Ok just to make sure im doing this right before i close this question, the next question on the test was the same thing but the equation was different. y = -10x + 14 to find the answer put zero in for x and the answer would come out to be 14 right?

hartnn (hartnn):

\(\Large y-intercept \equiv (0,14)\) yes :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok sweet thanks for the help! I'm sure i'll post another question if i dont get it.

hartnn (hartnn):

always happy to help ^_^
