Can anybody explain to me what the EPAS1 gene is? What does it do? How does it work? Does it have a long name?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

EPAS1, also known as Hypoxia-inducible factor-2alpha (HIF-2alpha)) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the EPAS1 gene. It is a type of hypoxia-inducible factors, a group of transcription factors involved in body response to oxygen level. functions rovides instructions for making a protein called hypoxia-inducible factor 2-alpha (HIF-2α). This protein is one part (subunit) of a larger protein complex called HIF, which plays a critical role in the body's ability to adapt to changing oxygen levels The long name of EPAS1 is endothelial PAS domain protein 1
