Which equation represents the graph of the linear function? A. y = −2x+ 1 B. y = −2x − 1 C. y = 2x + 1 D. y = 2x − 1

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Can you identify the y-intercept and the slope from the graph? @pickachu123

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since the graph is negative, you can rule out two answers (C and D) Then you look at the y-intercept (where the graph crosses on the y-axis) and you have your answer. Can you figure out the answer from that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok one sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mathmate not really

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no it is not a cause that has a positive slope but the line is negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, because the graph crosses the y-axis at a negative point, not a positive point. So it would have to be negative 1, not positive one. Do you see what I mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh I thought the line was positive well then it must be B

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@pickachu123 If you can identify the slope and y-intercept, this kind of problem will be easy to solve.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the y intercept is -1 and the slope is -2

OpenStudy (mathmate):

The y-intercept is where the graph cuts the y-axis, and in the equation, this number equals the value of y when x=0.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (mathmate):

So look up the equations y=mx+b m=-2, and b=-1

OpenStudy (mathmate):

...and then make your choice!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have another question one sec

OpenStudy (mathmate):

What did you get for this one?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

* get -> choose

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which equation represents the graph of the linear function? A. y = −4x + 4 B. y = −4x − 4 C. y = 4x + 4 D. y = 4x − 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mathmate its B

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Yep, that's correct!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Now, for this one, what is the slope and y-intercept?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

slope is 4 and x is -4 I think

OpenStudy (mathmate):

y-intercept is the value of y after putting x=0!

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Also check the graph, where does the line cut the y-axis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

umm I don't have to simplify the questions just wants to no which one is the rise over run for the graph

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Rise is vertical, run is horizontal. (but your slope is correct).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok whats the x I don't know what that one is

OpenStudy (mathmate):

To find the equation, you don't need x. y=mx+b m is the slope (you found 4). b is the y-intercept, the y-coordinate where the line cuts the y-axis, you can read from the graph.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@pickachu123 Still there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes @mathmate I lost connection

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is c @mathmate

OpenStudy (mathmate):

The answer choice is secondary, I would like to see what you got for slope and y-intercept!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the slope is 4

OpenStudy (mathmate):

and the y-intercept?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Perfect, so (c) is correct! \(\color{blue}{\Large\checkmark}{Way~to~go!}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks @mathmate

OpenStudy (mathmate):

You're welcome! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok don't be mad I have another question :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Complete the equation of the graphed linear function. Write the slope in decimal form. y = ?x + ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the y intercept of the graph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mathmate @pizza12 can I have some help on this question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks @pizza12 I have one more question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Complete the equation of the graphed linear function in point-slope form. y - (-2) = ? (x - ?)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@fallenangelorchid @freegirl29 @quin100

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@danish071996 @ispike @WOLF__ @WolfMaster @AriPotta @ameenbriscoe13

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its the last question

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@pickachu123 People don't usually dig into an old question. If you post a new question, it will be visible to more people who are already online, and you will get more help faster! For this one, you again will find the slope and the intercept. However, the intercept cannot be read off directly, so you can use the slope to help you find the intercept.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mathmate ok and thanks for the help im done with my test
