OpenStudy (aripotta):

we can use the elimination method like last time. but this time, the equations aren't set up to eliminate a variable. we have y = -x + 2 y = 1/2x - 4 what should we do to the second equation in order to eliminate the x when combining

OpenStudy (aripotta):

the first equation, x has a coefficient of -1. to eliminate x, we want x to have a coefficient of 0 after we combine the equations. so our second equation needs to have a coefficient of 1 for x, since -1 + 1 = 0. so how can we make it so that the 1/2 is made into 1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think we have to divide 2 by 1/2 or its the other way around but im gonna go see that other question to see if it helps

OpenStudy (aripotta):

you wanna multiply the whole second equation by 2

OpenStudy (aripotta):

2(y = 1/2x - 4) is what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh and sorry it keeps kicking me out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

crap I gtg

OpenStudy (aripotta):

alright, good luck :/
