Solving a 2-step equation Exponents and fractions Evaluating a quadratic expression What connections do the topics have in a real-world environment?
@e.mccormick
Well, do you know of anything that uses math that they gave examples of in your books?
no
map makers builders
Yes, for scale on a map or plans for both or for a builder to also estimate how much is needed in materials. This site has an example with heart rate: http://www.ck12.org/algebra/Solving-Real-World-Problems-with-Two-Step-Equations/ This one show sales and insurance: https://ecsd-fl.schoolloop.com/MA912A35 All of those are two step.
I don't know if you have seen any basic physics, but velocity and postion use exponents. It has to do with the fact that things are measured in values like meters per second squared.
And then both velocity stuff and time comes into quadratics. Then you get things like the arc of something thrown, which is one of the examples here: http://www.mathsisfun.com/algebra/quadratic-equation-real-world.html
So that should give you some references to use for real world applications.
