what do u need help with
OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):
ABCD is an isosceles trapezoid with legs AB and CD and base BC. If the length of AB is 7y - 4, the length of BC is 4y - 6 and the length of CD is 8y - 18, find the value of y.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
what is that link for?
OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):
Does y = 14?

@ayyookyndall
Do you know which two sides are equal.
OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):
Umm BC and AD? @confluxepic
OpenStudy (confluxepic):
No.BC is greater than AD.
OpenStudy (confluxepic):
Well. Now its obvious. The other two sides are equal.
OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):
Then AB and CD @confluxepic

Yes.
OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):
Okay so whats next?
OpenStudy (confluxepic):
So 7y-4=8y-18.
OpenStudy (confluxepic):
Can you do the rest.
OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):
Umm I can try... When I get it, ill let you know.

Ok.
OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):
Isosceles means that two sides are equal. In this problem, the non-parallel sides will be equal.
AB and CD are the two equal sides.
7y - 4 = 8y - 18
(Add 18 on both sides)
7y + 14 = 8y
(Subtract 7y from both sides)
14 = 1y
(Divide 1 on both sides)
14 = y
OpenStudy (confluxepic):
Correct.
OpenStudy (confluxepic):
I am so glad you know how to do math.
OpenStudy (confluxepic):
@StudyGurl14 @TheSmartOne
