I want a dog - 我要一只狗 (wo yao yi zhi gou) I have a cat - 我有一只猫 (wo you yi zhi mao)

@Kamizamurai, exactly as @ET_hmw said above. :) Here are the sentences broken down, if you need help with the individual words: 我 wǒ -- I/me 要 yào -- want (something). Note that there are two ways to say "want" in Chinese. They are easy to discern from each other though; as I showed before, "要" is to want SOMETHING, whereas "想" xiǎng means to want TO DO SOMETHING. :) 有 yǒu -- to have. It can also mean "There is/are." 一只 yī zhǐ -- the measure word usually used for animals. In Chinese, you must insert an object's measure word before you say the object. 猫 māo -- cat 狗 gǒu -- dog There ya go! Good luck!
