OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Which equation represents the graph of the linear function? A.y=-1/3x+1 B.y=-3x-1 C.y=3x+1 D.y=-3x+1

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

@mathmate

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Here you have to parameters. If you can match both parameters, you can find the equation. y=mx+b b=y-intercept, value of y when x=0. What is it? @TwiztTiez

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

D? i think

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Then the slope = m = \(\dfrac{\Delta y}{\Delta x}\) Can you find the slope?

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

:o hm this may take a while

OpenStudy (mathmate):

I would prefer you to concentrate on getting both parameters before making your choice.

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Okay sorry

OpenStudy (mathmate):

If you want to find the slope, you don't really have to use the calculator. You can do that by counting squares.

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

On the graph right

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Start from any point, find the y. Move one square to the right, see if it has increased (m>0) or decreased (m<0) and by how many squares, that your m.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Yes, from the graph!

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

So if i were to that i would see that it goes down -3 and over 1 right

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Exactly, m=-3, b=+1, now you're free to make your choice!

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

So D?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Exactly! \(\color{blue}{\Large\checkmark}{Way~to~go!}\)

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Yesh!

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Yay!
