How do I find what y=

2x+3y=20

OpenStudy (displayerror):

Solve for y (get y by itself) \[2x + 3y = 20\] We want y (in this case, 3y, since the 3 is stuck with the y) on one side \[3y = 20 - 2x\] Now we have 3y = (3y by itself), but your question wants y = (y by itself). Notice that \[3y = 3 \times y\] How can we remove the 3? We do the opposite of multiplication, which is division: \[\frac{3y}{3} = \frac{20-2x}{3} = y\] And you have y by itself.
