Compare the purpose and characteristics of satire in Pope’s The Rape of the Lock and Swift’s “A Modest Proposal.” Which one do you consider more effective, and why? How do these satires compare to popular satires today. I know that The Rape of the Lock was more of a playful satire meant to make fun of traditional epics and make the two families realize the stupidity of cutting a lock of hair from a woman's head. But it's really late and my brain is fried. Can someone guide me through the comparisons and contrasts?
