How do I express multiplication while I write text

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was answering a question here http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/54b2cd76e4b0981c990b836a I wanted to know, when I was expressing the equations, how to put a multiplication sign instead of an x, which I wrote.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

\(\ x\) \(\ \times\) `\(\ x\)` `\(\ \times\)`

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

As TSO says, \times \(\dfrac{1}{x}\times \dfrac{1}{y}\) `\(\dfrac{1}{x}\times \dfrac{1}{y}\)` or you can use cdot for the centered dot notation: \(\dfrac{1}{x}\cdot\dfrac{1}{y}\) `\(\dfrac{1}{x}\cdot\dfrac{1}{y}\)`

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Typically I just use \(1*3\)

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

``` \[\cdot\times\ast\star\otimes\prod\langle~,~\rangle\] ``` \[\cdot\times\ast\star\otimes\prod\langle~,~\rangle\]
OpenStudy (e.mccormick):
@UnkleRhaukus You forgot good old, \(()\) as in \(a(x+1)\). =P
OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
yeah, but that is plain text, not \(\TeX\)
TheSmartOne (thesmartone):
lol xD
OpenStudy (e.mccormick):
I used \(\TeX\) for it. That way it got the a and x proper.
