Hi! Can someone tell me what the formula of a triangular prism to find the volume STEP BY STEP

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can help :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay thanks! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There's two ways I can think of

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First of all do you know the formula for the area of a triangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, can you please tell me so I can write it in my notes :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, how about the area of a square/rectangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If not I can start from here :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait, I am trying to find the volume...forgot to add o_o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup, the volume :), we have to use surface area just a bit as well, I'll start with this:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1421078957918:dw| \[Area = length * width\] This would be the area of a square/rectangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And this is the difference with triangles:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why? o_o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1421079042681:dw| \[A = \frac{ 1 }{ 2 } base * height\] Like the area of a square, but half of it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, I get it! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the two ways we can solve for a triangular prism:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Either:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait, so I find area and triangles, this sounds like surface area :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1421079158152:dw| We can take the area of the triangle of a triangular prism and multiply by the length to find the volume

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And this is a 3d figure if you can imagine

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Usually a volume is like a surface area multiplied by depth

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can use the drawing for an example? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1421079358104:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So here's a triangular prism

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We can solve for the volume by taking the area of the triangle, and multiplying by the length

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what would be the area of the triangle which is: \[A = \frac{ 1 }{ 2 }base * height\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, so thats all i do..thats easy o_o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can also multiply: Base of triangle * length of triangle * length of prism and divide the entire number by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok :) thanks soo much
