@sammixboo

OpenStudy (ladiesman217):

What is it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Jacob spends 60 minutes in the gym every day doing freehand exercises and running on the treadmill. He spends 30 minutes more running on the treadmill than doing freehand exercises. Is it possible for Jacob to have spent 40 minutes running on the treadmill?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, b/c that would mean that he only spent 50 minutes in the gym that day

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Nnesha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@sammixboo @Nnesha one of you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could you help @ganeshie8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I really did not understand what the user said^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b/c if he spends 40 minutes on the treadmill then he would have had to have spent 10 minutes doing freehand, this only adds up to 50 minutes when he was supposed to have spent 60

OpenStudy (anonymous):

someone help me please if possible

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

i don't think i can help any better than @trindawg :) she has really a nice method, please go through it and see if it makes sense..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure I will, thanks =)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh now I get it, so it can't be because it would be less than what he is supposed to spend

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did not understand that at first, thanks @trindawg for your explanation =)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem

You could also write it mathematically, if you let x be free hand exercises and y be running on treadmill. Then you can set it up as x+y=60, y= 30+x Note: This gives you the amount of time spent doing free hand exercising, and then you can do the same for 40 minutes, but once again trindawg's method is much simpler and easier to understand :)!
