OpenStudy (ayeeeitskateee):

How are the cells different at the end of Meiosis and Mitosis?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

They are different in ploidy at the end. Meiosis is reduction division and thus halves the number of chromosome at the end while mitosis is an equational division and thus does not affect chromosome number.

OpenStudy (ayeeeitskateee):

What does ploidy mean?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Gametes are formed by meiosis and due to this gametes i.e sperm and ovum in humans have only 23 chromosomes at end while rest of the somatic cells (other cells of the body) have 46 chromosomes. Ploidy simply means number of chromosomes.
