here this might help: from the exerpt …Know that we, at the prompting of God and for the health of our soul and the souls of our ancestors and successors, for the glory of holy Church and the improvement of our realm, freely and out of our good will have given and granted to the archbishops, bishops, abbots, priors, earls, barons and all of our realm these liberties written below to hold in our realm of England in perpetuity. Article 1: In the first place we grant to God and confirm by this our present charter for ourselves and our heirs in perpetuity that the English Church is to be free and to have all its rights fully and its liberties entirely. We furthermore grant and give to all the freemen of our realm for ourselves and our heirs in perpetuity the liberties written below to have and to hold to them and their heirs from us and our heirs in perpetuity. …Article 29: No freeman is to be taken or imprisoned or disseised of his free tenement or of his liberties or free customs, or outlawed or exiled or in any way ruined, nor will we go against such a man or send against him save by lawful judgement of his peers or by the law of the land. To no-one will we sell or deny of delay right or justice. — Magna Carta, 1215
The pope, vexed by John's behaviour, banned all church services in England in 1207. Religion, and the fear of Hell, were very important to the people including the barons. The Catholic Church taught the people that they could only gain entrance to Heaven if the Catholic Church believed that they were good enough to get there. How could they show their goodness and love of God if the churches were shut ?
I think the nobles used the religion the protect their rights
i learned this not to long ago so basically the church was mad at the king so they shut down church services and they said the only way to get to heaven was through the churches approval and with churches shut down everyone thought they would go to hell even the king thought he would so to get them to open back up he gave the church and the pope many privileges
that's not what they thought me this is what I learned During the 1100s, King John of England began to abuse his power against nobles. At the time, the king had almost unlimited power, and John took advantage of this by demanding large amounts of money without consulting nobles and deciding court cases according to his personal whims. Soon the nobles began to resent John’s actions. After John lost a battle against France, the king had to make sure he had the support of his nobles. As a result, he agreed to sign a royal charter created by the nobles to protect their rights. This charter was called the Magna Carta.
the nobles are the ones that wrote it so the question remains, how did the religion influence the writing of the charter
thats what he did to make the nobles angry and then they wrote the magna carta but that still doesn't have anything to do with religion when he did all that then the churches shut down and after he lost the war the magna carta was written
what you said there is a lead up to the magna carta but it only talks about the nobles part in it and why they were angry
yeah they didn't teach me about the other stuff so I guess they only want to hear about the stuff that I learned in the lessons
i was just saying the question asked what was religions role and nobles don't have anything to do with that
alright i gotta go do math hw if you need help with anything else tag me
ok thanks
