The equation for the asymptote when the transverse axis is horizontal is: y= (+-) b/a (x-h) +k The equation for the asymptote when the transverse axis is vertical is: y= (+-) a/b (x-h) +5 Using this information, write the equation of the hyperbola. 15. Vertices: (0, -1), (0,1) Asymptotes: y= 1/3x, y= -1/3x 16. Vertices: (-6,0), (6,0) Asymptotes: y= 4/3x, y= -4/3x
