Solve 3x^2 + 7x =4 for x. How do I solve this?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

Hi!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hi!?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

start with \[3x^2+7x-4\] and then factor if you can, otherwise use the quadratic formula i bet it factors

OpenStudy (anonymous):

gotcha!

OpenStudy (misty1212):

i actually should say \[3x^2+7x-4=0\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How would i factor this if there is a x and x^2?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

it doesn't factor using whole numbers, you need to use the formula

OpenStudy (misty1212):

i can show you how if you like

OpenStudy (misty1212):

\[x=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}\] is the formula, put \[a=3,b=7,c=-4\]
