OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

There should be like a "study session" chat where you could ask quick questions like "what is absolute value" or "when was the American Revolution" so you can get quick answers instead of having to post it and wait however long it takes to get a response

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

And for longer homework problems, or harder questions, you would post normally to get explanations and more help.

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

The point of OS is to help not to give "quick answers." We giude the user instead so that he/she can find out the answer on their own without us giving it to them. So my point is, the purpose of OpenStudy is by helping others not by giving "quick answers" as you've wanted above.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

But sometimes a quick answer is helpful when all you want to know is something like "what was Mark Twain's real name?" then instead of posting and waiting for the short answer you could write it in the study session chat and get the quick answer, Samuel Clemens. There is no longer answer available that you should have to wait for. But if you wanted to know something like "what was Mark Twain's real name, when did he change it and why?" then you would post it in just the English section to get the answer of what it was, when he changed it and why. Then the user can be guided so that they can later answer it on their own. Both ways would work. But do you see what I mean in the ways different questions can be posted differently?

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

@fallenangelorchid do you agree? It's basically what I said earlier to you, just explained more.

OpenStudy (fallenangelorchid):

I most definitely agree, even though open study is a help site, you know, they don't give you direct answers, but they do help you understand the question, but it would be very helpful if we got our answers to simple questions right away, for example, Why did world war start?

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Yes, great example. And I agree with you, OS is a help site. But not all questions need explanations. Like your example. If you want more help and explanations, you could post in the correct section, "what was the cause and effects of the world war and when did it happen" then you could get more involved answers and if you have a homework problem, you could post that and get the explanation to help you answer your question.

OpenStudy (fallenangelorchid):

Exactly! ~Internet High five~

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Well, you would think people would also chat and chat in the chat box? =) They could end up ignoring the help, and continue chatting Who knows

OpenStudy (fallenangelorchid):

True.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Yes but there would be rules. Just as you can get in trouble for things you do when posting such as spamming, you can get in trouble for chatting in the study session chat. It would be a separate chat not for chatting.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Well chatting about random stuff

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

@sammixboo

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

See it's taken me 5 hours to get an answer.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Ummm. This could encourage cheating. People who want quick answers to their timed tess would love to have this so that way they get answers fast and can finish the test on time... And basically cheating is not allowed by OpensStudy's Anti-Cheating Policy and their school's honor code...

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Hmm... that's true...

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

But it wouldn't be test answers it would be more like the examples above to maybe get part of an answer. Like if you need to know one part to fully answer a question yourself. I'll work out the details to make it exactly what I want and what I mean and am trying to say.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Most of those things you listed as examples are things you can Google up. OpenStudy is a tutoring site, not an answers site. So things you could Google up should go to Google or some other favorite search engine.

sammixboo (sammixboo):

If your question isn't being answered, tag users and post the link to your question in the chats, asking politely for help =)

sammixboo (sammixboo):

And if that doesn't work, PM users

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

And first Google it. 95% chances its been asked.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

True. And this idea wasn't neccesarily because of problems I have had it was just a suggestion from what I noticed everybody had problems with. It was just an idea that sounded cool...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we don't need any of that.

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

The Disadvantages weigh out the advantages, if any: DISADVANTAGES o Would allow cheaters to get quicker help. o More cheating would occur. o Out of topic questions would be posted. o Increased spam. o Moral values of Openstudy is killed. o Takes away the point of Open"Study". o Most of these questions would be easily found under a google search. ADVANTAGES o Would get users questions answered more quickly. This would a be a more {No Topic} Subject. Lots of spam would occur and users might not be there to answer them. Thats why subjects are made, so you could ask the specific question where helpers come online specificly to help out in that subject.

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

i am going to be nicer....it is a good idea but it violates the reason behind the site which is to help people not get quick answers ;)

OpenStudy (aaronq):

people have already said it, use google.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Good point guys^^^ lots of disadvantages and cheating could happen.
