I'm sorry I know this is math but no one's helping me in that forum so please help if you can Simplify 1. 5-3x+y+6 2. 2x+3(x-5)+9 3. -20-(-5)*(-5)[2squared] the bracketed part "2squared" is supposed to be exactly what is says. But, there's no way to put an actual squared number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

any ideas??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, not exactly. These are the three problems out of about twenty that I don't understand.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know this material at all?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have a general idea of it... But it's hard for me to understand on my own. Hence, help is being asked.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol i see, what course is this??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Course? It's freshman level highschool, if that's what you mean. Algebra.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok good. so you wanna get a "1+x+y" equation so everything is grouped together. so add 5 to 6.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then it's 11-3x+y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, is this the answer you are looking for??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm guessing that's as far as simplicity allows. But for the second one, does the x is the parenthesis go into the 2x outside of the parenthesis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And yes, all I need to do is simplify this.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u multiply so "2x+3 (x-5)" the parenthesis mean multiply
