In order for a set to be closed under division, it means that for any two elements a, b within that set, a/b (a divided by b) is still within that set.
(a) This set is not closed under division, because if we let a = 3 and b = 0, then 3/0 is not a real number (i.e. not in the set R). In fact, 3/0 is not defined.
(b) R - {0} means the set of all real numbers, excluding 0. This set is closed under division.
(c) R - {-1, 1} means the set of all real numbers excluding -1 and 1. This is not closed under division, because if we take a = 3 and b = -3, then 3/(-3) = -1. -1 is NOT in the set "R - {-1, 1}"
(d) {-1, 1}
