What is 80.945 rounded to the nearest tenth?

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Well what is the tenth's place do you know?

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

It is 9. The next place is the hundredths, then the thousandths. And it keeps going. Note the "th" n the end. That means it is after the decimal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

81

OpenStudy (anonymous):

..81 if it's 1-4 the number on the left will decrease if it's 5-9 the number on the left will increase

OpenStudy (anonymous):

81

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Don't forget when rounding if the next number is 4 or under, then it stays the same, but if it is 5 or above, it goes up 1 higher

OpenStudy (flufflepuffle):

The tenth's place is the closest place to the one past the decimal, if the hundreths place, past the tenths by one, is greater to or equal to 5 then the tenths place goes up by one, this happens for all of the places in decimals.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

No direct answers guys

OpenStudy (chosenmatt):

@Vniverse please don't give direct answer guide the person instead

OpenStudy (igreen):

^^^^^^^^^ @Vniverse @kevinngo @BAMnhra Pleases no answers

OpenStudy (igreen):

*Please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since 9 is a high number you round to the left and bump the number 1 up

OpenStudy (igreen):

80.945 ^ This is the tenths place..if the number there is 5 or more, you round up to 81, if the number is 4 or less you round down to 80.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1-4 leave, 5-9 go up

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

@princessdraculaura157 what do you think it is with the help you have been given? You try because they might be wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@princessdraculaura157 I deserve a medal

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

@Vniverse you do not. You simply told the answer and gave a brief explanation. You didn't guide the peron

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

*person

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's a 50/50 chance that it's 81

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is 81

OpenStudy (flufflepuffle):

It says to the nearest tenth. If it says to the nearest tenth then you only apply the rule up to the tenths place.

OpenStudy (flufflepuffle):

It's not 81.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

@FlufflePuffle That's what I thought but everyone said it was 81 and it sounds right

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

It is possible it is 80.9

OpenStudy (flufflepuffle):

It is 80.9 because it says to the nearest tenth, when it says that you don't apply the rule past the tenths place.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

@princessdraculaura157 is this multiple choice?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Yes, it may be @FlufflePuffle. @princessdraculaura157 you choose what answer you think is best, with the information and tips you have been given

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Enter the answer. is the kind of question it is

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Look at what I said at the top about the tenths place...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you change the 9. so it will be 81

OpenStudy (flufflepuffle):

No you don't!

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

I have an idea. Let's use our friend Google to decide since the people on Open Study have different opinions. But make sure the answer has reasoning and an explanation so you can be sure @princessdraculaura157

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow @FlufflePuffle is right, it's telling you to round the nearest tenth, not the tenth's place. giving you still, 80.9

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Yes. 80.9! It says the nearest tenths place!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i looked it up earlier it's the same question but multiple choice answers mine isn't like that i have to enter the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the answer 80.9

OpenStudy (flufflepuffle):

Yes.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Yes!

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Because you are rounding to the nearest tenTHs place (remember what I said at the top)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Round the number to the thousandths place. 64,672.318498 A. 64,672.32 B. 64,672.319 C. 64,672.318 D. 65,000

OpenStudy (flufflepuffle):

Do you know what the thounsandths place is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no not really

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Please post as a separate question:)

OpenStudy (flufflepuffle):

The thousandths place is the third number past the decimal.

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Only 1 per post according to the Code of Conduct(so not my idea)

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Btw look at what I said at the top about the thousandths place @princessdraculaura157 . Then I want you to try it first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

after the decimal, it goes tenth, hundredth and then thousandths so already given your four choices, try to figure it out

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

It cannot be A or D because they do not go to the thousandths place

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

And then because it is a 4, you round down to .318

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

So your answer will be C

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

64,672.318
