What is LaTeX?
You start out like this `\(\` and then you put a size for example `\(\Huge`and then another slash `\(\Huge\` then you put a font another example `\(\Huge\cal\` and then the word color `\(\Huge\cal\color` then a bracket { and a hex code. Here's the link to the hex codes http://www.color-hex.com/ `\(\Huge\cal\color{#f9bec7` Close the hex code with another bracket `\(\Huge\cal\color{#f9bec7}` You need another braket now, and use ~ to separate your text. Example: `\(\Huge\cal\color{#f9bec7}{Test~text}` Make sure you close your text with a bracket. Now to end your text command, you need to complete it with a `}\)`. THe command I just showed you makes: \(\Huge\cal\color{#f9bec7}{Test~text}\)

As for the original question, "What is LaTeX?"... \(\LaTeX\) is a typography system that has roots in wanting to use computers to do more affordable complex typography. This started with \(\TeX\) and \(\LaTeX\) was later added to make that more user friendly. Sites like OpenStudy have decided to add support for these languages because they help with the proper display of math. However, people also use them to do more decorative things. Still, if you learn the basics here, you will have a leg up if you ever need to use the full \(\LaTeX\) for say a college paper or book.
