what does "Explain how the diction and characterization indicate the author’s point of view about a human rights issue." even mean ?
Diction refers to the way something is worded. Authors use diction to provide more emotion in text. Rather than, "Suzy cried" one may say, "Suzy wept until her eyes were swollen". It makes the sentence much more meaningful. Characterization is when the author says something that we can extract the nature of someone from, such as, "Suzy was very rude" which would be direct characterization. Indirect is when the author says "Suzy shoved Cheyenne for no reason", which would also make you conclude she is rude. In whatever you're reading, it is asking for clues the author gives or through the way he words about Human Rights. If he says "Human Rights should be offered to everyone, nobody should be treated poorly" or says something that seems supportive, that is characterization in the sense that he is compassionate to Human Rights. In diction, take a sentence from the quote of the author and "dumb down" the sentence, then compare. Notice the way he uses words to make the reader feel a certain way.
