set up an equation
w = width
l = length
you are told the length is 4 times the width
so l = 4w
then the perimeter
P = 2 l + 2w
when you substitute is
150 = 2(4w) + 2w
or
150 = 10w
now solve for w.

sooooo... what the width? O-O
OpenStudy (campbell_st):
well just solve the equation
150 = 10w

how?

just set up an equation in terms of some width w. For 1) suppose the width is w and the length is 4w. Since the perimeter of the rectangle is 150 feet, we have 2(w + 4w) = 150 --> 10w = 150 --> w = 15. The width is 15

to solve the equation
150 = 10w
divide both sides of the equation by 10
