Plz help with math! 7th grade math!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k=_______

@hero @myininaya

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iGreen

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Plz help will give medal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mathslover

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

Is there something on the other side of the equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whoops ya sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

=8 is at the end

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

That would make it a lot easier. :)

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

First PEMDAS, have you heard of it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

Okay. what would be the first step?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

parenthases then exponents which there are none so multilpication

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiplication*

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

Yup. But it is along with division. You would need to get rid of the dividing (-7) first.So how would you get rid of -7?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

negative x negative= positive

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

One sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plz hurry i need to go

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

|dw:1421423819570:dw| Look familiar?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

Then you need to add 10 to both sides. Then divide by 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:( im stupid i dont get it

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

Btw you should ask your teacher to explain this sort of thing better to you.

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

Multiply the -7 on both sides, then follow my comment after the pic. If you want me to explain it better after school, tag me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

? i still dont get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plz help me

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

Okay, write down the equation.

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

Then to get rid of the -7 you need to multiply both sides of the equation by -7. That will cancel it out on the side of k and keep the equation equal.

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

So you will need to multiply 8 * (-7)

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

Then you will end up with \[-56 = 2k -10\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-56

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

Yup. Then you add 10 to both sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-46=12 or 12k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no wait -46=k right?

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

No. Adding 10 to the side subtracting 10 would just leave 2k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did add 10

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

It should be \[-46 = 2k\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

You added 10 to 2k, which you can't do because 10 and 2k do not match

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

Now you need to divide both sides by 2 and there's your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k=-23

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

Yup. Good job.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ty for helping me

OpenStudy (haleholmes):

No prob. Btw you will want to ask your teacher to teach you this better, because it only gets harder.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok
