#44 English 11A final exam. help please.
What's the question?
"You can't cut characters off rom their society and say much about them as individuals." "You can't say anything meaningful about the mystery of personality unless you put that personality in a believable and significant social context." Consider the quotations above. Then pick a story from semester A and evaluate how the social context and the characters work together not only to provide a vivid setting, but also to help explain and develop the characters' thoughts, words, and actions.
Is this 11th grade English?
yes
I've been stuck on this question forever and it's my last one that I have to do! Please help!
I didn't realize this was 11th grade. I'm in Honors English 10A. Maybe @SuperflyTyGuy can help you out. @SuperflyTyGuy can you help @gabby_m out please?
awe alright! and that would be great! @SuperflyTyGuy
I wish I could help but I would need to know what stories you read for your class
Oh okay! uhm, we read "The Masque of Red Death"
Oh!! We also read "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge"
Another one is "The Lemon Tree Billiard House"
Okay cool. Have you read any of these stories?
Bits and pieces. I honestly don't even remember what went on. I'm terrible at this. :(
I just need an answer. Or something to get me started!
k
can you help me out?
you could start out by picking a story(:
well yeah! I was thinking "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge".
@SuperflyTyGuy you there?
that's good and then look at the story and see how the social context and characters work together. like, look at the social context then the characters and once you start to realize how they work together you can write that down as part of your essay so your teacher can see that you actually did the work. and once you're done piecing together how they go together. bam, you already have a paragraph or two and then you just keep going.
yes but i'm trying to find the story that will fit your quote
oh alright! (: and @Liv1234 I don't have my book with me.
what you should do is look through the whole question. answer each part of the question one part at a time. so you should start out by saying "i've decided to pick this story by whoever wrote it" and then go on to the next part which is about the social context and the characters, after you're done with that part go on to the next part which would be to explain the vivid setting and then to help to explain and develop the character's thoughts and words and actions.
i hope that somewhat makes sense lol. I've learned that if there is a question within questions I do the first part of the question and just go on to the next part and then at the end i just finish up by summarizing my whole answer/essay together.(:
Yeah it does. thanks
@savane0621
Do you know what each of these quoted mean, Gabby?
In a way, yes! I think I have a good idea about what the first one is trying to say
I'm still stuck on my question. I have two essay questions left ugh
great!
I think its basically saying that in a story, you can't just bring in a character and say anything about them without giving information about them or where they are or a setting. not sure if im right though :/
its confusing though
do you think you could help me and start off with something that I finsish the answer with.
You're right! You have to know their background in order to know about themselves. You know any story that can fit that quote?
noo. I don't. otherwise I wouldn't be on here right now haha. do you know any stories?
This would be so much easier if I actually knew of a story that fits that quote.
Well I haven't read these story, no. What's the Lemon Tree Billiard House about?
no idea. that one was so stupid.
hold on
k
I think I have myself an answer! Thanks for trying to help though!(:
