HELP ME!!! As Mercury revolves around the sun, it travels at a speed of approximately 30 miles per second. Convert this speed to kilometers per second. At this speed, how many kilometers will Mercury travel in 20 seconds? In your computations, assume that 1 mile is equal to 1.6 kilometers. Do not round your answers.

@DanJS please help meee

OpenStudy (rocklionmba):

do 30*1.6 that's going to get you kilometers per sec.

OpenStudy (rocklionmba):

then do that * 20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be 960 if you multiply that

OpenStudy (rocklionmba):

that's rounded though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

30x1.6= 48

OpenStudy (anonymous):

48x90=960 @rocklionmba

OpenStudy (rocklionmba):

that's your answer

OpenStudy (rocklionmba):

you answered you own question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is 960 the speed or is it the distance traveled in 20 miles? @rocklionmba

OpenStudy (rocklionmba):

distance; 48 is speed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what is the distance traveled in 20 miles? @rocklionmba

OpenStudy (rocklionmba):

960 is distance, 48 is speed

OpenStudy (danjs):

hi

OpenStudy (danjs):

you still working on this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

heyyyy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeahh please help mee

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you think the answer i have is correct?

OpenStudy (rocklionmba):

I say yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think he is right too

OpenStudy (danjs):

OpenStudy (danjs):

start with what you are given, 20 seconds, multiply that by ratios of 1 to cancel units correctly , and end with kilometers, like above

OpenStudy (danjs):

1 mi = 1.6 km 30 mi = 1 sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mhmm okay then what i do?

OpenStudy (danjs):

after you set it up and the units cancel correctly, take care of all the numbers now

OpenStudy (danjs):

multiply all the top mumbers and divide by all the bottom numbers

OpenStudy (danjs):

|dw:1421540806864:dw|

OpenStudy (danjs):

if you want just the speed in km/s only do the first 2 of the 3 fractions, you are left with km/s

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for speed i got 48 is that correct?

OpenStudy (danjs):

\[\frac{ 30~mi }{ 1~s }*\frac{ 1.6~km }{ 1~mi } = \frac{ km }{ s }\]

OpenStudy (danjs):

miles cancel, left with km/s

OpenStudy (danjs):

For conversion probs and things like this, set up fractions multiplied together, and take care of the units first, if the units work out correctly, then you have the right answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the distence traveled i got 960 km/s is that correct?? @DanJS
