OpenStudy (jenniferkeryakous):

what is the area of the square? how do you get the answer?

OpenStudy (shaadykhamlichi):

The are of a square is the side times the side

OpenStudy (jenniferkeryakous):

posting the pic one second

OpenStudy (shaadykhamlichi):

And that's the rule for that

OpenStudy (shaadykhamlichi):

Ok

OpenStudy (jenniferkeryakous):

This is the pic

OpenStudy (jenniferkeryakous):

how do i get the area of the square? step by step plzz

OpenStudy (jenniferkeryakous):

i dont get it. it doesnt make sense? @mattherd

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, in your calculator type 4/cos45

OpenStudy (jenniferkeryakous):

i dont take cos yet so idk what that means @mattherd

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know Pythagoras?

OpenStudy (jenniferkeryakous):

nope @mattherd im still in geometry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, on your grid the top of the square sits on the 6 and the bottom is on the -2. that means that the horizontal of your square is 8. got it?

OpenStudy (jenniferkeryakous):

i still dont understand @mattherd

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, if this is geometry then flip it. the square is perfect so if you cut it in half you will get 2 isosceles triangles. do you understand that?

OpenStudy (jenniferkeryakous):

ok what do i do next? @mattherd

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you understand how the longest part of the triangle is 8?

OpenStudy (jenniferkeryakous):

yea when you count the boxes i got 8. @mattherd

OpenStudy (anonymous):

close enough. ok, now put a second line in that goes from each corner. This will give you 4 isosceles triangles in your square. This tells you that each small isoscles triangle has 2 short but sides of 4. now with this you can find the arena of one of the quarters. (4x4)/2. understand?
