1. A container can feed 1000 rats for 20 days. How many containers does it take to feed 550 rats for 400 days ?

@One098

OpenStudy (one098):

Have you tried working on this question?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Can you show what you have tried?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 1 container for 20000 days and im stuck

OpenStudy (one098):

How did you get that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1000 times 20

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

First off, I would find how much of a container it take for 1 rat, for 1 day.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but they were 3 variable which confuses me =.= im sorry

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Ok, 1 container = 1000 rats for 20 days. To find 1 rat for 2 days, what would you do?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Ah whoops, first find 1000 rats for 1 day

OpenStudy (anonymous):

erm.. 1/20 container ?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Yep, which equals .05. Now divide .05 by 1000 to find how much of a container for 1 rat for 1 day. Or you can also move the decimal point to the left by 3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks!

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

What do you get now?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Remember, that is only for 1 rat for 1 day. We need 550 rats for 400 days.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'll just multiply 550 and 400 right ?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Multiply .00005 by 550, then 400 and that is the answer :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup ok, thank you :)
