The first step would to be plug in your known values. What equations and knowns does the question give you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It only tells me what thada is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm so confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you have the equation : \[\cos \theta=\sqrt{\frac{ Lt }{ Lo }}\] Right? So start by plugging in theta =45 degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cos(45degrees) = 0.707107

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's a start, now how would we get ride of the square root?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

square both sides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Great! And then you just have to split up that fraction somehow and I think you got yourself an equation for the relationship between Lo and Lt. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so then i would times both sides by Lo? right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exactly!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is B. right!? thank you so much! this makes so much more sense!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well if you want to check your answer, you can always doing that by plugging it into the original equation.
