How would you solve 3x+1 = 2x+2?

OpenStudy (thelittlemerpmaid):

First, subtract 2x on both sides You should then have x+1=2 Got it from there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (thelittlemerpmaid):

You're welcome :p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would it become 1x+1 +2? ugh this is basic algebra i should know this stuff lol

OpenStudy (thelittlemerpmaid):

xD no you have to get rid of the two x's first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you possible write out a step by step solution? :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

possibly*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well i mean you can but i want to learn how to do it

OpenStudy (thelittlemerpmaid):

Yeah :p You will always subtract the smaller number of x from both sides then, you'll just solve like 1=x+4 x would equal -3 It's sort of hard to explain, do you get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah okay gotcha thanks so much :)

OpenStudy (thelittlemerpmaid):

Anytime :D
