A manufacturer of shipping boxes has a box shaped like a cube. The side length is (5a + 4b). What is the volume of the box in terms of a and b? Show your work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Volume is found by multiplying l*w*h. The lengths of a cube are all the same. So to V = (5a+4b)^3 or V = (5a+4b)(5a+4b)(5a+4b) was my answer is it correct @MrNood @Directrix

OpenStudy (mrnood):

your answer to THIS question is OK so far - but it is not what the question requires You need to multiply out those 3 brackets...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so explain to me the steps i need to do this in

OpenStudy (mrnood):

I will explain - but I expect YOU to do the work .|dw:1421784514243:dw| you need to multiply each term in each bracket by the others start by doing 2 brackets: (5a+4b)(5a+4b) |dw:1421784644057:dw|
