(8y+2)2 =(8y+2)(8y+2) =(8y)(8y)+(8y)(2)+(2)(8y)+(2)(2) =64y2+16y+16y+4 =64y2+32y+4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks! is the 2 a ^?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^2 means to the power of 2

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok so you need to know \[(8y + 2)^2 = (8y + 2) \times (8y + 2)\] now you can split the terms in the 1st set of brackets to 8y(8y + 2) + 2(8y + 2) now distribute and lastly collect like terms. and alternate method is to use a grid |dw:1421959398932:dw| the terms in each square of the grid is are the product of the terms in the row and column
