Name structure with a valid IUPAC name
7-bromo-4-hydroxl-2-octene
@oOKawaiiOo Wow thank you! Do we not account for the methyl groups?
oh shooottttt.......my bad!! let me rename it!!!
7-bromo-4-hydroxl-2,3,5-trimethyl-2-octene
You have to account for anything off of parent chain.
oo nice! and why is it TRImethyl and not like PENTAmethyl (not sure if it makes sense, new to learning this)
@oOKawaiiOo
There are 3x methyl groups off of the parent chain (longest carbon chain counted), so you call it Tri- I was a chem major :)
Oh yes okay I see where i went wrong here! I was going crazy over those methyl groups. Would you mind assisting with one more? I got : 2-chloro-4-Fluro-3,3-dimethyl phenol. Except I'm 100% certain if i started my numbering in the right place @oOKawaiiOo
Im not 100%**
In this case.....the hydroxl take priority (so you are on the right track)
OH ok! So the came I up with would be fine? @oOKawaiiOo
im looking at it now,......give me a few minutes
1-fluoro-2,2-dimethyl-3-chloro-4-cyclohexanol
The reason why Fluorine is #1 and not #4 is because you want the numbers to be the lowest as possible. For example 1-X-2-Y-3-Z ....... 1+2+3 = 6 3-X-3-Y-3-Z ........3+3+3 =9 6 is lower in value than 9, so 1-X-2-Y-3-Z takes priority over 3-X-3-Y-3-Z
hmm I somewhat understand. except I'm a little confused about the example
I'm still shaky with the numbering
