first time doing common core math and it has me crying, can anyone please help? what is the length of a side of an equilateral triangle whose altitude has a length of 18?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By altitude you mean its height?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

HI!! there is no crying in math (common core is criminal, but no crying) this takes exactly two steps

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know what an altitude is, I am just coming back into school in the middle of the math year

OpenStudy (misty1212):

yeah usually the formula is given for the altitude of you know the side if you know the side the altitude \(h\) is \[h=\frac{\sqrt3}{2}S\]for side \(S\)

OpenStudy (misty1212):

to go backwards, if the altitude is \(h\) then the sides is \[S=\frac{2}{\sqrt3}h\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is still confising. forget it, ill never get it

OpenStudy (misty1212):

it is not something to "get" you just write it

OpenStudy (misty1212):

\[S=\frac{2}{\sqrt3}\times 18\] done

OpenStudy (misty1212):

or perhaps once you write that \[S=\frac{36}{\sqrt3}\]
