What is the area of a square?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Length times width, right? So what is the area of the square?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Here's an image, if it helps. Once you have that value, we'll write it down and add it to the area of the triangle.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Still there?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yeah sorry

Ok, so do you have the area of the square yet?
OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cool, now you have the two triangles. You know that their combined length where they touch the box is the same as the height of the box. They meet in the center of that line, so that side of each triangle is 1/2 the height of the box.
Now you have two sides, and can say 1/2 base times height is the area of one triangle. You have two, so two times that answer plus the area of the box will be your final answer.
