A ladder leaning against a wall makes a 60 degree angle with the ground. The base of the ladder is 4 m from the building. How high above the ground is the top of the ladder?

Use Tan 60 = Perpendicular/Base
Right angled triangle. Base = 4m Angle with ground = 60 degrees Height of top of ladder is found by tan = Opposite/Adjacent tan (60) = Opposite/4 Opposite = 4 + tan(60) = 6.9m This is the height of the top of the ladder above ground. Hope this helps. :)
Tan 60 = Perp/4. Solve for Perpendicular
@victoria.stearns Opposite = 4 multiplied by tan, not added to tan...
So the answer would be 4 x 60?
@ArsalanAijaz
4 x Tan 60. 60 and Tan 60 are different things
I dont get what tan is tbh. is that short for something?
This website is really helpful http://www.mathsisfun.com/sine-cosine-tangent.html
It's a trignometric ratio. Tan of any angle is equal to Perpendicular/Base with respect to that angle.
