Feudalism was a political and military system based on the holding of land. In feudalism, many people shared the same language and customs but were loyal to different lords. Feudalism discouraged unified government. A nation state is a political unit consisting of an autonomous state inhabited predominantly by a people sharing a common culture, history, and language.
