OpenStudy (millsemily):

If someone could check my answer, I'd appreciate it. If it's wrong, can you explain it to me? Thanks! What are the equations of the lines of symmetry shown below? A. x=2 and y=5 B. x=3.5 and y=6 C. x=2 and y=3.5 <--- My answer! D. x=3.5 and y=2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the question reads a little odd to me, but assuming they simply want a few of the equations of the sides of the rectangle .... y = 3.5 doesnt seem to correspond for me

OpenStudy (amistre64):

we pass thru x=2 and x=5; and y=6 and y=-2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

as is, i cant say that i understand what they are asking for given those answer choices

OpenStudy (millsemily):

The want to know the equations, for the lines of symmetry it has. So. Like the rectangle has 2 lines of symmetry, what are the equations of those two lines? :)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a rectangle has 2 lines of symmetry; the 'middle' lines so we may want the midpoints for the xs and ys what is the midpoint of 2 and 5? what is the midpoint of -2 and 6?

OpenStudy (millsemily):

3.5 and -4?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

it looks like your original response found 2 and 3.5 but you attributed them to the wrong parts :) x=3.5 and y=2 are more better

OpenStudy (millsemily):

no - 3.5

OpenStudy (millsemily):

Ohhh..

OpenStudy (amistre64):

x=(2+5)/2 = 7/2 = 3.5 y=(6+-2)/2 = 4/2 = 2

OpenStudy (millsemily):

Well that makes more sense..

OpenStudy (amistre64):

:) good luck
