Can you draw these pictures?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its says a circular picture is 8 inches in diameter @kohai

OpenStudy (kohai):

Do you know the formula for an area of a circle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no... @kohai

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't see any pictures....

OpenStudy (kohai):

\[A = \pi*r^2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is no picture all it says is a circular picture is 8 inches in diameter then the questions..

OpenStudy (kohai):

So you know that the radius is twice the diameter right? So if the diameter is 8, the radius has to be 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@kohai gave you the formula to use

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea ohh so is the area 157.75? :s

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bc 3.14 times 4 is 12.56 and the squared is 157.75

OpenStudy (kohai):

You're going to use pi here instead of 3.14. See how your answer choices all have pi in it? That's how you know. So you're going to do A=pi 4^2 = 16pi.

OpenStudy (kohai):

For the second part, the radius is increased by 2 because there's a border around it. So instead of the radius being 4 in the equation it'll be 6. What is the area for the second part?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12pi? @kohai

OpenStudy (kohai):

No. You added, you didn't multiply. A=pi r^2 A=pi 6*6 A=36pi
