OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you what do you think the answer is

OpenStudy (bohotness):

your welcome

OpenStudy (bohotness):

i would say both or only b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plz help

OpenStudy (igreen):

Functions have to have only ONE value of 'x'.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think b

OpenStudy (igreen):

Here, the points are labeled as (x, y) A = {(1, −2), (3, −5), (5, 2), (7, 5)} So what are the x-values here? @ShawnSpencer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i would say it is b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First thing to remember about functions is that for every independent variable (x), there is only one dependent variable (y). for example: you have the set {(4,3), (3,5), (6,7)} is this a function? yes because there's only one y value for each x value.. another example: this set { {(4,3), (3,3), (6,3)} is this a function? NO, because the y value for each x-value is the same.. so if you'll graph this.. this will not pass the vertical line test.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea me to

OpenStudy (igreen):

No, that's incorrect..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what @Data_LG2

OpenStudy (igreen):

Be has the x-values: 4, 4, 9, 9 Are there any repeating one's? If there are, it is NOT a function, if there aren't, it IS a function.

OpenStudy (igreen):

Actually I think it's only x-values that cannot repeat.. @Data_LG2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is it d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait,.. jinx my bad, you're right @igreen

OpenStudy (anonymous):

am i right saying d

OpenStudy (igreen):

What are the x-values here? @ShawnSpencer A = {(1, -2), (3, -5), (5, 2), (7, 5)}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1,3,5,7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@igreen

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yes, now are any of those the same?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yes, therefore it is a function.

OpenStudy (igreen):

So what will your answer be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh thank you also can you help me with one more maybe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my answer is a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yep, you got it.

OpenStudy (igreen):

Sure, I can help with more, just close this and open a new one.
