Sorry I got here kinda late.. Okay so he told the answer lets discuss how he knows, so what is a direct clause? I believe what you mean is a noun clause acting as a direct object. A noun clause is one of three types of dependent clauses, which are used in conjunction with an independent clause and cannot stand alone as complete sentences. A noun clause, as the name indicates, is an dependent clause consisting of a noun or pronoun and a verb. An example would be: "His parents thought that he finished his homework." In this case, the bold segment is the noun clause. The pronoun 'he' is the direct object of the verb 'thought', which is clear if you remove the word 'that' from the sentence. "His parents thought he finished his homework."
