@directrix should be a moderator

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

He is pretty awesome, but we don't really have any say in who should be a moderator.

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

or she, idk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well they should they help people alot

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Once an admin or other moderators recognize the potential in users such as @Directrix , then they are offered the position of moderator, and they can accept or decline from my understanding.

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

I'm sure that @e.mccormick can clarify since he is a moderator :)

Directrix (directrix):

@shelbydancer I belong among the pro·le·tar·i·at. It is my fate. And, I've already declined the invitation to be screened for the Mod Squad. Thanks for the vote of confidence, though.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Moderation is not really about who is the most helpful. It is about removing abuse from the system. Also, there are a number of users who have been asked if they want to that have refused it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WHO would refuse such a great and amazing privilege. Surprising! @e.mccormick

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Lots of people.

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

To be honest, if I were asked to be a mod I would deny it, Soly for the reason of I feel would let openstudy down as a mod.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

abb0t decided not to be a mod. (Preetha told him that is he cleaned up his act he could be one... well...)

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

uh... abb0t? mod? #EndOfOpenstudyAsWeKnowIt

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Like I said, Preetha put limits on it... he does not fall within them, so he chose not to become one.

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

ah. despite how much i said it would be amazing if i was a mod, truthfully inside i know i would never be able to accept it, simply because i feel i would fail openstudy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do u become one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Moderators are either members of the OpenStudy team or community members who the team feels have the qualities of a good moderator based on how they interact with other community members. It's not that glamorous, but if you really want to be a moderator the only way to get there is to become an active, helpful member of OpenStudy and hope you get lucky when they decide to add more moderators! High level users are high level users because they have been on the site for a while and are active on it. We have long, proven track records of being respectful and helpful. And we plainly know our subjects so we are able to discern right answers from wrong answers. These are all qualities that make good mods. But no, I don't know that high level is a strict and absolutely necessary requirement.

@shelbydancer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First rule: You must be 18+, due to legal issues. Second rule: You have to be, and act mature. Then you have to win the respect of this community through interaction, knowledge and the ability to interact and intervene in an appropriate manner. It is in big part based on participation, courtesy and respect. The most important thing is that you let the administrators and moderators know that you can see things going awry, and that you are willing to make some effort to solve/prevent it. And certainly NOT in a way like messaging them about how bad you want to be a moderator (this will only work contradictory), but they have to notice that you are up for the job. Then, when they decide they need more moderators, you might get asked. Things that will certainly help: ◘ Being on the site for a fair amount of time. (usually more than 6 months) ◘ Be an good and active user on the site ◘ Having a squeaky clean abuse record. ◘ Having good rapport with fellow users. ◘ Getting recommended by a moderator. ◘ Having a good sense of justice. ◘ Being an expert in some field. Most of the mods are math geniuses, but any subject would suffice. ◘ Doing a great job in the ambassador program. In the ambassador training period, you'll learn how the rules work on OpenStudy and you'll learn how to make the right decisions. Also you'll have a bigger chance of being noticed by the admins. ◘ Hope you'll get lucky when they decide to add more moderators! Note that this is not really a guide, it's more like the eligibility conditions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To become a moderator, you need to be expert in a subject, you should be able to take mature decisions, you should behave very nicely, and you must help to enforce the CoC here. Then you wait for an admin to notice your talent, maturity and behavior.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that last bit then ^
