Quick question. How many of you would leave openstudy, or lose interest, if there were no levels, medals, and fans?
i mean its all about the help and the atmosphere to me lol
I was just wondering, I feel like a lot of people are just in it because of the sensation of leveling, medals, etc...while I agree that it's a good bonus and a mini-reward for helping, others are using it just for those rewards.
No, I'm not suggesting to remove those features. I'm just curious.
Well most of the old users of OS don't really care about it...
And others don't care about it because they come here to chat...
Good points. If they were to suddenly take away levels from everyone (including 99's), I have a feeling some would lose interest in helping. Just my opinion
If there was no SmartScore, I would freak. I love my SmartScore, and I take pride in it. If they had taken it away, I would have long quit. If there were no medals, but I could still maintain my exact smarscore, I would be cool witht that. And Honestly, I wouldnt care if they took away fans as long as they didnt take away my dear testimonials and Smartscore
@dtan5457 Also once users reach 99SS, they don't care about SS anymore. Some stay to help on, others leave because well mission accomplished.
And honestly SmartScore is what got OS to hook me onto it ;)
i dont care tbh the chat is to talk and make firends here the fans, medals,SS is for reputation
@TheSmartOne I agree, smart score also shows "reliability' too.
Same. If I wasnt hooked and involved into Openstudy I wouldnt have cared to make friends in the first place. Friends right now Is why Im still online.
after i get 99 i will still be here lol
Honestly nothing! My passion is to help others and gain knowledge myself! All this is just extra for me and shows me on my end what I need to improve on and etc..
Openstudy will definitely make you smarter and others smarter if you use it correctly. Win-win situation?
I came to ask a question, then I got hooked and tried to increase my SS. And after 99SS I love OS and can't dream of quitting :P Its kind of like an abused drug ;P ;)
HAHA! I guess your addicted to studying and helping? Is that good or bad? :)
Both.
plus i am too young to say "i dont care about medals i am here to help", cuz thats partially tru i want to raise my SS and get fans but along the way i want to learn as well
I totally agree with you @dtan5457 "I feel like a lot of people are just in it because of the sensation of leveling, medals, etc...while I agree that it's a good bonus and a mini-reward for helping, others are using it just for those rewards."
I love Openstudy and Helping others, but I also love the competitive atmosphere! People compete to get a higher smartscore, or set their own goals to a certain SmartScore. My first goal was 60 SS, I'm extremely surprised I even made it this far.
I second that. It's a small reward that makes you want to keep helping. Just make sure your "helping", and not spamming answers :D
I take them as even But I still like having the respect I do have for having a higher smartscore
Rather than having a below 30 smartscore
yep no really bothered to look at me when i was 8ss lol
Did any of you start as direct-answer givers? I won't lie, I did that ALOT when I first joined. @Nnesha taught me a good lesson and I haven't done it since. Now I'm totally against it.
Sssh! @YanaSidlinskiy you aren't the only one ;)
yes then @turingtest told me to stop
Yep! And there he goes running around like @Joel_the_boss
Yes, until @jigglypuff314 told me about them rules. LOL. I was well into my 70's when I first heard about the CoC. lol
All it took for me to stop was imagining a scenario: The user which I gave direct answers too, taking a test in a class room, with only the letter "A", which I told them yesterday, in their heads.
True story :) ^
Also giving direct answers are against the CoC. Also cheating is against OpenStudy's Anti-Cheating Policy And also against their school's honor code :)
How do you exactly tell if they are cheating? AKA, if it's a test question.
I'm never able to tell
Omg I would be the worst user, you wouldn't imagine. I would get suspensions back to back right after I was 5 minutes done with one of them. I would curse in chats, say innapropriate things, and hated the mods. I probably averaged about 40 suspensions back then. All I would do is give direct answers whenever I would help. @tkhunny taught me a valid lesson. He taught me to be the new me. I haven't even gotten a warning/suspension for about 4 months. I haven't given a direct answer in exactly the same time. I have especially not said one curse word or even used an acronym with one since then either. tk showed me that, there was no reason that I should disobey the CoC or the TaC when it was so easy to follow them. He is why I am like how I am today. I try my best to do best for Openstudy. Because it has done its best for me. And I truly thank it for that. Openstudy has changed me in ways you wouldn't imagine. I love Openstudy, and all my friends in it. I don't understand why I was lyke that when I was new either. But I'm so happy I'm not lyke tht anymore.
me i never ask lol
@dtan5457 It depends You can tell it is a test question when it has Parts as in Part A, Part B, and Part C. Also, you can tell when they are timed. Or when they say urgent.
Not sure. There was a user yesterday who was practically harassing the asker, because he really believed it was a test. Everyone else disagreed, but he refused to let it go. Funniest thing about his concern, was that he gave a direct answer to the asker's first question, THEN he goes off about how it's a test.
Lol.
Yeah..sad stuff..accusing others of violating rules when he just violated one himself..
@dtan5457 one way to know its a test is they might attach a screenshot that says test. Another way is to google them and you might find a post on OS where people post all the answers to the test. I have seen a post with answers to like a 50 multiple choice question test. lol
[Opinion coming in...]
Maybe if I'm like a new user and already got the help I need, probably I'll leave and then will come back if I need help again xD I actually joined a science forum before but then I got bored so I quit. Probably the same thing will happen here if there are no ss, chat, trophies etc.. That user funnyguy, I always see him giving direct answers just to gain medals. I plan to report him but then I'm just like nah, because for sure someone will gonna caught him and you guys did so yeah good job! :) When I was a new user, I always gave direct answers just to gain medals because I didn't know anything about the site. No one welcomed me when I was a noob :,( I didn't even know what's an ambi and a mod... then after that, I got a warning from a mod so yeah I've learned my lesson. From that I tried not to give direct answers... BUT again there's another time when I got a warning from a mod (this time I know who xD) for giving direct answer. I explained the method of how to the question to the asker but at the end of my explanation I stated my final answer, which turns out to be wrong...then I got a warning from the mod who was also answering the same question lol anyway, from that day on I'm only doing the questions that I know I can explain without stating the answer (unless someone tag me, so I'll feel responsible for that person). Last time, I also got tricked by an asker. The asker told me that the question was not for quiz or tests but turns out I was wrong. So be careful -__- not all questions that are not multiple choice is a homework :)
Data, I saw that question lol. It was clearly a test question otherwise he wouldn't have random rectangles around his screen
No, it's not that True or False question. It was a long time ago when someone asked me for help, it was not a multiple question nor a true or false question. It's like a word problem and Idk how to explain it without showing a proper solution so yeah .. past is past lol
I really would not care :/
